Remember Norma Bauerschmidt? She became an internet sensation. Her incredible life story inspired so many here and across the globe. She chose a life of adventure, of courage, of fun and of acceptance — even after she knew she had cancer.
I’m 90 years old. I’m hitting the road.
Norma was 90 years old when doctors told her she had a big cancerous mass in her uterus. This news came just two days after her husband had died.
Instead of battling it out with cancer, putting herself under the knife, undergoing chemo and radiation therapy, she opted to embark on an RV trip that would travel across the United States and soon made her the talk of the country.
In her interview with The Huffington Post, Norma said, “I’m having the time of my life! I’m done with doctors.”
When the doctors asked her if she wanted to proceed with the cancer treatments, her reply was both hilarious and astounding, “I’m 90 years old. I’m hitting the road”.
With her son, daughter-in-law and their poodle pup, Ringo, Norma went on a trip of a lifetime.
They lived in an RV, traveled the road to different places in the U.S. They went to check out the Yellowstone National Park. The headed to New Orleans’ famous Bourbon Street. Norma even had the time to admire the grandeur of Mount Rushmore.
No one is too old to try new stuff. She finally got the chance to ride in a hot air balloon, and visiting many popular places, like the Grand Canyon and Disney World.
